Sarah's Strudel or the OBX Octopus

This is my stunning sister Sarah. She is a Professional Tree-Hugger who lives in Hawaii. The Thanksgiving before she had her baby our family all met in North Carolina's Outerbanks and I got to henna her pregnant belly! We decided that the Octopus would be perfect for a Hawaiian baby. Here she is standing on the deck in front of the Atlantic.

Before the baby was born he was known simply as "Strudel", which I put on the design on the momma's left side. This picture also has a little Liquid Bling glitter to highlight it, as well as a swarovski crystal as the eye of the Octopus. Strudel has since turned into Lochlan, an incredible little red-headed pistol. These designs are all from my henna design book "Aegean".

I did the Octopus the first day, and it took along time so I stopped there. The next day I wanted to add more, so I added the kelp, the flying fish, and other little sea creatures. This picture is a great example of how the henna stain starts out light and matures to a darker color. Notice how the Octopus which had a ONE day head start on maturation is so much darker than the newer application. The magic of henna!

Gauntlet and Garter

This gauntlet design is from my design book "Aegean: Henna designs based on the Art of Ancient Greece." With, the addition of the Om, which Remy loves, even his ring is a circle of Oms. This looked fabulous on him, its one of my favorites.

These Happy Skulls are for a Day of the Dead celebration. Like a happy yet morbid garter... very fun to sport with a short skirt and high school girl knee highs.

Winging it

Some hennaed wings, Angelic aren't they?
My son Remy was heading to camp as a Counselor-in-Training and wanted a big piece on his back before leaving, this Owl totem with Om was the result.

Baby Belly Bumps!

This momma-to-be had her belly done and her daughter got some "Big Sister" henna!
This Baby was born in Hawaii too! We chose a fun, energetic design from my Henna Design book "Aloha".

The lovely Alissa, one of my great Henna Artist friends, gave me a few minutes to henna her baby bump when I saw her in Albuquerque at the US Body Painting Festival. She looked so lovely!

Graduation Henna

This lovely girl was given henna for a graduation gift. It was a lovely time meeting them and the henna turned out stunning thanks to great designs from "Ganesha's Henna Garden".

She also had her foot done, I was very happy with how they turned out... Just Gorgeous!

North African Style Henna

North African style henna is recognizable by its straight lines and geometric shapes.

Fest favorites

Some more festival work: An incredible Toucan from Mehndi Masala.

Some delicate "Fingerings", I love this, henna along the insides of the fingers looks so delicate and mysterious..... and just put your fingers together and no one knows its there.

This Sea Turtle is from my henna design book "Aloha". This particular one I did on the wife of an American Indian at the Mulberry Creek Herb Fair. She wanted me to do whatever inspired me, only to find out later that her husbands name was "Soft Shell Turtle". Needless to say she was thrilled.

Mexican reflection

This design was so lovely to wear, I showed it off proudly around Mexico City, seen here reflected in a handcrafted mexican silver mirror.

Berlin Tattoo Convention

I was invited to do henna at the International Tattoo Convention in Berlin, Germany. It was really quite incredible, the artwork was astounding. Here are some hands I did at this event,
And a Czeck who liked my gentle flowery designs better than any of the tattoo flash he'd seen at the other booths, so the first day I hennaed him and the second day he had it inked permanently.

Kois and Kings

I saw this King of Spades done by Nick Cartier several years ago and thought it was such a great contemporary design that I had to do it myself. This Koi fish also feels very contemporary, swimming out of its henna-river. This design was also done at the Greater Columbus Arts Festival.

Oh Baby!

I love to henna pregnant bellies! Usually the mom is so relaxed and the baby starts to move around, so it can be a bit of a challenge to henna ontop of the rolling canvas, but its always very sweet.
Its so lovely to have that baby bump hennaed to show off at your shower, or just for all of those people who just want you to bare your belly for them.

Moroccan Bride's Henna

These are hands that belong to brides. One is my friend Touria from Morocco who followed her love to America and got married here. The other is a lovely lady who's bridegroom is a Moroccan man.

Hearty Peacock

This sweet Heart Peacock design is one of Canadian Kim Brennan's that I did on my own palm. I like to take my henna paste off early sometimes so the color doesn't get to complete maturity, that way it stays at this reddish color, but it doesn't reach to the dark dark blackberry and it doesn't last as long either.

And another peacock, this one designed by Lezard from Singapore.

Festival Fare

These designs are typical festival works, one a REALLY cute little froggy anklet, and the other is one of my Habiscus designs from my henna design book "Aloha: Henna designs inspired by Hawaii" These were both done at the Greater Columbus Arts Festival.

Drums

A Goat Skin Bohdran drum hennaed with designs from my Henna design book "Aegean" that I made for my father as a Christmas gift.

A small natural skin tambourine hennaed with a Celtic Knot design.

Dee's Leg

What great legs! What a great canvas for henna.

Love & Drum

This design is from Kiran Sahib's book "Love Mehndi".

A natural skin tambourine with henna, the design is African in style, taken from one of Alex's
pieces from Spellstone.com.
